What is vaginal laxity?

Over time, the vaginal tissue may experience a decrease in firmness and elasticity, which can cause some women to notice a change in sensation in the intimate area or reduced satisfaction during sexual intercourse.

These changes may be associated primarily with pregnancy and vaginal childbirth, ageing, hormonal changes, and individual characteristics of connective tissue.

This condition is often referred to as vaginal laxity or vaginal relaxation syndrome. Although it is not necessarily a medical condition, these changes may affect well-being, self-confidence and the quality of intimate life.

How does laser therapy work?

For laser treatment, we use the Fotona Er:YAG laser with SMOOTH® technology, which enables controlled, non-ablative heating of the vaginal tissue.

The thermal effect of the laser causes contraction of existing collagen fibres and stimulates collagen remodelling and the production of new collagen.

The aim of the treatment is to improve the firmness, elasticity and quality of vaginal tissue and, in appropriately selected patients, help improve sensation in the intimate area.

About the procedure

Before laser therapy, we carry out a consultation with a gynaecologist and a gynaecological examination to assess the condition of the tissue and determine whether laser treatment is appropriate for the patient.

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis in a gynaecological chair and usually takes approximately 20–30 minutes.

The treatment involves no surgical incisions, stitches or bleeding, and anaesthesia is generally not required. During the procedure, you may mainly feel warmth or mild discomfort.

You can return home immediately afterwards and usually resume normal daily activities quickly.

How many treatments are needed?

As the therapy stimulates the natural processes of collagen regeneration and remodelling, changes develop gradually.

We usually recommend 2–3 treatments, with the number of sessions and intervals between them adjusted according to the condition of the tissue and the individual patient's response.

Changes may begin to become noticeable after the first treatment, while the collagen remodelling process continues in the weeks following therapy.

After the procedure

A prolonged recovery period is generally not required. We recommend avoiding strenuous physical activity for approximately two days and refraining from sexual intercourse for approximately one week, or as advised by your gynaecologist.

Before leaving, you will receive clear instructions regarding care, activities and further treatment.
